After midnight the party was in full swing and an even bigger success than previous years. Lem had the bright idea to do more outreach outside of the neighborhood, especially to local colleges, and it worked. There was a steady flow of clients and all the artists were working on someone. Stevie wrapped her arm around Joseph as he sat taking a break from inking an arm piece.

“I still can’t believe this just belongs to us,” Stevie said, pulling him in close.

“I know and I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be doing it with,” Joseph said kissing her cheek. “Oh boy, in comes trouble,” he mumbled in her ear.

Stevie followed his line of sight and saw Asia. She was with two women, Stevie recognized one as her friend Angela. Joseph gave her a look, but she made her way over to say hi.

“So you came to join our night of debauchery,” Stevie said, opening her arms for a hug.

Asia smiled and hugged her back. “How could I forget about this event? It was partially my idea if you recall.”

“Oh shit, you are right,” Stevie said. She said hello to Angela and introduced herself to Asia’s other friend named Lin. “So what can I do for you ladies? We have food and drinks in the back and we have a nice raffle going on.”

“I’m ready for my first tattoo,” Lin said in a perky voice. “I feel like it's now or never.”

Stevie laughed. “That’s the spirit, what about you Angela?”

“I’m going to watch her do it first then decide,” she said pointing at Lin.

“I’m getting something but it’s a piercing,” Asia said.

“Well, I do piercings now so I could help you with that. What are you looking to get pierced?”

“My nipples,” Asia said with a sly smile.

Asia bit her lip, and Stevie could read the mischief in her eyes as her friends chuckled. She led Lin and Angela over to Delilah because she was wonderful with first-timers. Once she had them settled, she grabbed Asia’s hand and led her to the private room they used for extensive tattoo work and more involved piercings. As she shut the heavy door, the sounds of Notorious BIG became muted.

“So you’re sure about this?” Stevie asked as she set up the space.

“I thought it would be fun, something different. Plus, you know how sensitive my nipples are.”

Stevie mumbled her agreement and tried to concentrate on getting her tools in place. She had Asia take off her top and her bra. After taking a deep breath, she snapped on some gloves and turned to look over the body she once knew as intimately as her own. Still as beautiful as she remembered, Asia’s smooth brown skin glistened under the lights. Stevie reached out and used a marker to pinpoint the spots on her nipples where the needle would pass through.

“You can lie down,” Stevie said, directing her to the flatbed.

Stevie took the forceps and needle she was going to use and hovered over Asia.
